Introduction - Why Am I Writing This?

Hey there.

My name is Alexa.

I am not an expert gardener, nor am I an expert in bees.

Like many people, I've been following the earth's declining bee population for a number of years now, but until recently I wasn't sure how I could contribute to the solution. Having recently moved into a home that has a little green patch out back and plenty of window sill space for planters of all sizes, I figured now was as good a time as any to put my money where my mouth is.

On the next page you'll find a bit of background information on the global bee population crisis. I'm not into spreading fear or 'doom and gloom' when it comes to environmental issues, I'd rather just look at the facts and figure out what I can do to be part of the solution. But that's just me. I'm sure you have your own reasons for creating a bee-friendly garden (hands up aspiring melittologists!) Whatever your reasons are though, know that you're doing something pretty awesome for the planet, so give yourself a big pat on the back.

As you go through this guide and start your garden, I'd love to keep the conversation going so we can exchange ideas and tips--remember: we're both figuring this out as we go along and there isn't one "right" answer. I'll do my best to update the guide based on your feedback, and I hope that you'll share your stories with me when you can.

Happy planting!
