Charles Dickens is the famous author of "The Christmas Carol" and "Oliver Twist" amongst many others.

He actually lived in Manchester during the industrial revolution. Being an amazing writer, he documented the sights and sounds of the time by writing about a fictional town called "Coketown." Most people agree that Coketown is actually Manchester. He's a very descriptive writer so it's easy to get a visual of the city as you read.
