Short-term And Long-term Carb Loading

On the weekends, when you load on the carbs, you might find you need a little adjustment. Some people find that on the weekends, after one day of carb-loading, they feel that they are retaining water, tired, and generally losing the cut look.

When this happens you can cut the carb-loading to one day. This will result in a 6 day high-protein/high- fat/low-carb run and one day of loading. However, if this works for you, then go for it, you will know.

Just remember that the higher the GI value of the carbs, the quicker and higher a carb spike you will have and you might want to consider changing the carbs you are eating, going to lower GI values, before you try going to a one day carb-load. This might take care of the problem.

You will have to watch your carb loading carefully because, as with everything else, different people experience different responses. You might find you run on an even keel and you might find your response to the insulin fluctuations cause you to go up and down and be hungry all the time. If you aren’'t careful you could take in up to 10,000 calories per day. If you are one of these people, then you might benefit from the one day carb- loading.

On the flip side of the coin, there are some people who decide they are going to start their carb loading early. After all, it’'s Friday and Friday can be a very social day. It’'s the end of the work week and time to unwind. While this may be the case, if you load up on your carbs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, you will pay for it. Three days of carb loading is TOO MUCH and your body will shift back into a glucose-burning metabolism.

Having said this, if you keep to low-GI carbs on the weekend, then you are allowed two cheat meals, one Friday night and one Saturday night. After all, when everyone is heading out for a fun night on the town, you will want to be social and join in. These meals can be whatever you want and I say enjoy them!

There is also room for special circumstances such as a midweek birthday party with yummy cake or a special social outing. Maybe you have to take a client or colleague out for a special dinner. This is okay and you will find that, as long as you are sticking to the Abs on the Go diet at other times, you will be fine.

It is also common for the body to become so adjusted to the fat-burning metabolism over time, that it will not convert easily back to the glucose-burning metabolism. The longer you are on the Abs on the Go diet, the more carb-loading it will take to get you switched to a glucose-burning metabolism. This means that even if you are gone away for a week and drastically switch diets, you should be able to return to the Abs on the Go diet without trouble.
