7. Vision & Values

What we think we've figured out so far

re•base should be organized and governed more-or-less as a "holacracy." (In a holacracy, everyone is invited to supply direction and leadership wherever they feel called to do so, and wherever they see an unmet need - unlike a hierarchy, where direction and leadership are concentrated in a few people.)

This means that "vision", "mission" and "values" are more than nice-sounding statements. They become the reference points that help all of us exercise our discretion whenever we leverage the brand, resources and opportunities that membership in the community affords.

Right now these statements are provisional. They will undergo relentless reconsideration by all of us before the community considers them "final".

Vision

A global community of thoughtful actors whose:

  • Diversity embodies the complex challenges that we as society face, and whose
  • Dialogues generate inclusive, relevant responses to these challenges.

Mission

To co-create spaces where the "mix that is missing" can meet and mobilize meaningful responses to society's greatest challenges.

Values

Shared Journey: We recognize we are interconnected and must work collectively to achieve the future we seek.

Radical Inclusion: Our destiny is driven by diversity.

Embrace Ambiguity: We recognize and accept the value of the unexpected space between the lines and in the margins.

Chaotic Creation: We acknowledge that chaos can grow into small interventions with big impacts.

Ego-free Participation: Our community is committed to a fundamental participatory ethic. Everyone matters, and no one has the wisdom to judge "how much." We check entitlement and embarrassment at the door.

Giving: We value the act of giving. A gift is unconditional, and it is given in the spirit of contribution, not acknowledgement.
