The concluding sentence summarizes or ends the paragraph. Without it, the reader is left hanging. Think of losing the signal on your cell phone in mid-conversation. That is what a paper is like without its conclusion.

Continuing with the topic of skiing, I may conclude my paragraph by saying, "As you can see, skiing has provided many benefits to my life and has changed my negative feelings about winter into positive ones."
