Book collection starts 3 weeks before the sale. For example this
year, collection started on Tuesday, April 3rd with a book sale
start date of April 19th (Easter weekend often falls around
collection time, so be sure to take account of this in the
schedule).
This is our current collection schedule:
Week 1: Monday-Friday mornings (8:45am to 9:15am)
Week 2: Monday-Thursday mornings (8:45am to 9:15am) and Evenings
(7pm to 8:30pm)
Avoid having a collection on the last Friday, as you'll need the
time to sort.
Ideally, two or three volunteers should be available to collect, count and move books to the basement for each collection shift. We use an excel sheet ( Book Collection sheet.xlsx) to tally the totals every day.
Once tallied, the totals are updated on the graphing charts daily (could be less frequent in the first week).
WHAT SHOULD PEOPLE DONATE? Books (all sorts - children's, board books, Guinness Books, fiction, non-fiction, cook books, travel, self-help, mystery, history, etc.) and games. Please help us sell what we collect by donating RECENTLY published books and games that are in good condition and will sell! We also collect bags and boxes to help with organizing the books before the sale. Please have a look at the following paragraph to see what we do not accept.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT: VCR tapes, Dictionaries, Bibles, Encyclopedias (except children's), Magazines (including Readers Digest), Textbooks, Out-dated computer manuals, Harlequins/Silhouettes, Coffee Table books.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- every box/bag should be quickly inspected to make sure it doesn't
contain anything on our banned list before moving it to the
basement
- books are placed against the East wall of the book sale room in
the basement. Make sure to keep the west door closed, or to put a
note on it. This year we had people drop off books directly into
the basement and they got mixed in with the sorted boxes.
