Post Mortem 2019

Please use this space to add any/all notes to remember what we should or shouldn't do next year:

2019 Notes (Elspeth):

- box sets: should we separate them, or have a rule against buying them on children's day/volunteer night? Had two people ask on volunteer night - very popular books in a box set.
- Liked having sorting as a separate week
- the bright sticky notes worked well for the categories on bags/boxes.
- for sorting childrens, talked with Wendy about whether it might make more sense to sort by category type (star wars, thomas the train, "pink", etc) rather than by book type (apart from maybe board books).
- we should order more laminated labels for children's to match the new ones in youth & non-fiction
- Questions about whether or not old kids can come to volunteer night
-Mellissa was wondering why we had a limit of 12 books on volunteer night.

Notes from 2018's sale

Emails/notes to parents/teachers:
- really long lag time between sending a message to Isabelle and it getting out to parents. Need to find a workaround or a better way to send out the messages
- Note should have said "$5 maximum" for children's day
- Need to be clear about whether it's $25 or 25 books that each teacher gets
- Need to be clear about who gets these (include ECE's)
- Does GNAG get to come and buy books before general sale?

Collection:
- end collection on the Thursday, not the Friday morning (gives more time for sorting)
- have a clear plan for what to do with books dropped off after the collection deadline (maybe set aside for the following year)
- Need to have a look at what really doesn't sell this year

Sorting:
- (Elspeth) I need to get the sections up on the wall earlier, and wonder if it might be an idea to put a check mark every time we bring a box over, just to give an idea of how many books are in the section?
- Wondering if there is a way we can be more efficient with sorting - should we add more categories? Separate fiction by individual letter? Create more categories for children's?

Advertising:
- giant blue sign is expensive and we couldn't get it up until really late this year. Might want to get a cheaper, smaller sign instead

Children's day:
- 3 classes came at once - too many to properly supervise

Cake Raffle:
- might be nice to make sure that at least every class gets a cake (do a draw for each class)

Public Sale:
- music was great!
- Need to keep pushing for the outlets next year

Accessibility:
- woman in wheelchair complained that 4th avenue entrance door didn't open automatically with button
- the walkie talkie won't work for someone who is not able to press the button
- when she tried the walkie talkie, no one answered
- the space is too tight for someone in a wheelchair to navigate

Labeling:
- we should try to print out all of the small labels for individual sections professionally, or at least have them laminated. Also need to make sure they're stored in a place that is easy to find before the sale starts.
