To engage a diverse group of people in a dialogue aimed at discussing action options to resolve two phenomena that underlie the marked shift we see across the Western world towards populism and nationalism.
The first phenomenon relates to the fact that, while we live in a global economy, governance remains predominantly national. This fundamental mis-match leaves national governments no choice but to compete destructively with one another to attract inward investment and jobs - to keep their national economies internationally competitive. This dynamic has the nature of a vicious circle and is a phenomenon I call "Destructive Global Competition" (DGC).
The second phenomenon I call "Pseudo-democracy". Pseudo-democracy is the undermining political effect that DGC has on national democracies and results in the political chaos, populism, polarization and nationalism we see today.
DGC and pseudo-democracy are explained in more detail below.
