Get to know what your hosting provider offers before signing.
You want to make sure they can meet your needs.
Questions about the facility that is important to
know:
- Supported OS?
- Supported Hypervisors?
- Is the Data Center (DC) Accredited? What types of data based on
this can be hosted? Is the DC fully redundant on both electrical
and mechanical systems?
- SLA? This is huge. Particularly if you have VM's and require
hosted workloads in different countries. It is important to be sure
that although you may be using the same Provider for all locations,
that each location adheres to the same accreditation and SLA needs
you require, so you may govern data sovereignty more efficiently
and pass that assurance to your clients. Every country governs data
behind their borders differently!
- What types of user interfaces and control panels are
available?
- What type of DDoS mitigation policies does the Provider have if
any?
- How much 'ahead of time' notice do you give your clients before
any planned maintenance?
- How often do you load test your generator and UPS systems?
