Some of the main takeaways from municipal experience with the Net Zero effort are:

• The pathway to net zero is conservation, electrifying, deploying renewables and planning to deploy all the infrastructure in a life cycle of the capital renewal.
• Incorporating net zero considerations into Asset Management and Capital Planning is crucial because when a net zero solution is introduced during an infrastructure renewal, the incremental cost, if there is one, to go to net zero can be seen/understood.
• Building portfolio analysis (audits) should identify decarbonization.
• Capital Plan Review is needed to identify upcoming equipment replacement and cost, as well as modelling analysis to capture growth plans/ master plans.
• Renewable Energy Analysis of all buildings and mapping locations and the potential cost is essential in planning for net zero.
