Taking your footage to create a rough cut will involve importing it onto your computer from your camera and into editing software. Roughly place your shots where they need to be according to the script. It's a good idea if you have multiple versions of the same shot (same dialogue, maybe with different background or wording change) to create additional versions of your video. This will give you more options to play with.
Editing Software
1. iMovie - Free, OSX
This is a very basic movie editing software that comes with Apple computers. It has basic editing features and is very user friendly. It allows you to add in music, animated logos and preset openings. However iMovie is very limited in regards to advance features such as color correction, audio effects, frame by frame editing and speed control.
2. Final Cut Pro - $300 OSX
This is industry standard editing software and has many professional and advance features that are well beyond the needs of an amateur video. In fact this software has been used in feature films such as The Social Network. However for the relatively modest price it is loaded with features and will give you full creative control of your video. There is a learning curve with this software but many free tutorials can be found online. You'll be able to do things such as create custom logo animations, modify colors in specific areas of a piece of footage, clean background audio noise, edit frame by frame, work with multiple layers of footage and much more. It is a great piece of software to own if you plan on creating multiple video projects.
3. Adobe Premiere Pro - $600 Windows, OSX
This software is also widely used in the film industry and is viewed as the windows equivalent of Final Cut Pro. It has all the capabilities of Final Cut Pro with the one major advantage in that it works seamlessly with existing Adobe software such as Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects.
4. Adobe Premiere Elements - $100 Windows, OSX
This is a watered down consumer version of Adobe Premiere Pro. It has a similar user interface but with significantly less features. It has many preset features, such as preset colors and transitions, but lacks the depth of control the Pro version features. This is a great option for windows users on a budget.
