Politicians and thought leaders are great at this - ask them something specific, and they'll give you a great-sounding general answer. We're prone to beleive them, even though they don't have the slightest clue about our situation.

We're also prone to beleive in own generic answers - ignoring the inconvenient specifics that don't fit our worldview.
