David vs. Goliath – How Solar Nova Scotia went up against Nova Scotia Power and Won

On January 27, Nova Scotia Power applied to the Utility and Review Board to institute a system access charge on net metered solar customers in the amount of $8 per kilowatt per month. This would have resulted in an annual fee of $960 on an average 10 kW system. The impacts of this fee would have essentially decimated demand for grid-tied solar installations across the province. This talk will outline how Solar Nova Scotia mobilized a coordinated advocacy strategy and social media campaign against the utility's proposed access charge. The end result was the utility removing the system access charge one week after they submitted the application.
