Your Performance To Date

In this step we're going to try to get a high-level snapshot of your past performance - hopefully 6 months to a year. If you haven't been "live" that long, that's ok, but the more historical data you have the better - even if it's not as great as you know it can be (we'll fix that!).

Nobody loves fancy financial spreadsheets and graphs more than I do, but that's not the point of this exercise. You can save that for investors (groan) and auditors (double groan).

In the resources section you'll find another spreadsheet where you can input numbers going back as far as a year. Just change the months on the top of the spreadsheet from when you launched or 12 months ago - whichever is the shorter time period. (For example, if you launched 4 months ago and it's now February, the first month should be October and the last month should be January - don't include the current month for now).

Enter:

  • The total number of NEW visitors to your website (unique visitors)
  • The total number of NEW people who signed up or purchased (combine them both if they're not the same numbers)
  • The total revenue that month

If you're not charging for your product yet, that's ok, just skip that number. If you don't have exact numbers, just try to estimate the best you can.

At the bottom of the spreadsheet there are auto-calculations (ok, bit fancy!) to show the change month-to-month. This is an important number that we'll use frequently later as it is used to measure growth and velocity - both key indicators in the growth of your business.
