Ecosystems are path dependent, which means that the route travelled is of significant influence on the options going forwards. Therefore what is present at the start matters, both in terms of the ingredients and the constraints. Where the ingredients such as ideas, people and communities infomr the ecosystem, the constraints channel it. Constraints can technical (software and platform features and rules) or social-cultural (behaviours, norms and values on the platform), or ideological (ideas, knowledge). In terms of quality, the intend should be setting the bar high enough to aspire to yet low enough to relate and inspire contributions. However, depending on what happens, the same starting conditions can produce different outcomes. Therefore what you do to nurture the ecosystem is equally important, this requires continued attention.
What you give attention to you will get more of. Particularly in circumstances of ambiguity, examples which are put in the spotlight stand out. They have a lighthouse function and set an example for others. This emphasises the importance of curating content and communities to raise the overall quality and direction.
When an ecosystem evolves into a direction less desired it provides a paradox. One can't call too much attention to it as this might leed to more of such content or behaviour. In that case, rather than feeding it with energy it should be deprived of energy. For example through ignoring, redirecting or distracting the energy that feeds it.
