Having focused so far on your internal motivations and preferences, you now need to shift your attention externally and start thinking about how you can create something that's going to work in the market. How are you going to monetise your ideas?
Your business model is basically a plan for how you're going to make money. Important aspects to consider include:
• identifying a customer or client target that has an urgent and important problem, sees value in the solution that you can provide, and is willing and able to pay for that solution;
• creating the right products and services that will address the pain points of your audience and get them the results that they're after; and
• designing packages and pricing that will help you reach your income and lifestyle goals.
And that last point is important: although we've shifted gears here to look externally at meeting the needs of your potential clients, you still want to meet your own personal criteria. Make sure you're checking your ideas against your values and preferences when it comes to how you want to show up and market yourself as well as how you want to deliver your products and services.
Do also consider multiple income streams. And not just income streams within the same business - why not also consider a portfolio career? A great option for 'multipassionate' people with different skills and interests, a portfolio career involves combining different streams of income from different businesses, or perhaps a business on the one hand and a part-time role on the other. If nothing else, it works well as a transition phase out of your corporate job, allowing you to leverage your existing experience and network while you start building your passion project in parallel.
