2012- Transportation 2040

The Goal: To develop an EV Ecosystem

1. Expand access to home and workplace charging - How?

  • EV requirements moved from Building Bylaw to Parking Bylaw (which is tied to zoning) - allows more transportation demand policies
  • Develop a retrofit policy to facilitate charging infrastructure in existing buildings
  • Private sector uptake of public charging infrastructure

2. Improve the public charging network

  • Better Return On Investment (ROI) on public charging

3. Integrate EVs infrastructure planning into core City processes

2018- EV Strategy

Strategic Directions:

  1. Increase access to charging - How?
  • Continue requiring all new developments to include EV charging infrastructure
  • Family Homes - Incorporate requirements of energized outlets for new one-two-unit residential development into the Zoning Bylaw
  • MURBs - 100% EV-ready parking spaces, allowing for loaded management systems
  • Commercial Buildings - EV charging stations in the prescribed percentage of parking space

2. Partner with private industry to provide charging locations throughout the city, including retail locations, existing parking lots, and another under-utilized land.

City's EV Fleet Procurement Strategy (2019-2023):

  • 2018 - 100% renewable diesel fuel (55% of city fleet is diesel-fueled)
  • 2021 - 200 electric vehicles (in 2018 there are 100)
  • To provide EV charging for employee's personal vehicles to charge during work hours
