Stages of Fire Development

----------

NOTES

In summary, there are four main stages of fire growth:

  1. Incipient- slow HRR growth.
  2. Fire Growth - transition slow to fast HHR growth.
  3. Full Room Involvement - high HRR, steady state.
  4. Decay - reducing HRR.

Additionally there are a number of important events including:

  1. Ignition - Heat, Fuel and Oxidizer come together.
  2. Established Burning - 20Kw, likely to grow.
  3. Flashover - Very high HHR growth.

Ventilation can impact the timing and/or actualization of these stages and events.
