Identify How You Can And Cannot Pivot

Remember - you pivot after you've gotten some type of signal from the marketplace that your particular path won't get you exactly where you want to go. Maybe a new opportunity has come up, or a new product has launched that is changing your industry, or maybe the current path just isn't working.

When it becomes clear that you need to change your strategy in order to accomplish your purpose, then you pivot.

Every company goes through several pivots, some more than others. It is important that every member of your team develops the skill of creating ideas that will get you to your higher vision statement - your purpose - by building a slightly different product, or adopting a different strategy.

You can pivot your product. You can pivot your strategy. You can't pivot away from your vision, and you can't pivot your values.
