What does each of the indicators mean in the data chart?

Jobs (Full-time equivalents)

The jobs indicator presents the total number of people that are currently formally employed in different sectors in the city, obtained from statistical datasets. This indicator can highlight the economic structure and focus of a city and could indicate where innovation potential could lie in the city.

Mass (tonnes)

The mass indicator presents the quantity of materials that are consumed by sectors in the city. This includes all types of materials, from biomass (such as wood and food), to minerals and chemicals (such as plastics and concrete), as well as metals. This can indicate the sectors that have a high material footprint and, therefore, could benefit the most from circular economy strategies.

Emissions (tonnes CO2eq.)

The emissions indicator presents the total quantities of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions directly emitted by sectors within the city, presented in tonnes of CO2 equivalents. The original model is calculated per country profile, but provides both emissions as national totals and gridmaps at 0.1 x 0.1 degree resolution at global level. We summarise the data onto the city boundaries. This can indicate which sectors of the city have large quantities of emissions that could be mitigated through circular economy strategies.
