How to use the data chart?

The data chart is useful to compare and contrast sectors in terms of their environmental (mass and emissions) and social (employment) impact.

Rather than examining absolute volumes, the data chart is most useful for relative comparisons-i.e. which thematic area has the highest employment rates? Or, which thematic area produces the most emissions and how does this relate to the relative employment level?

Sorting by employment shows how manpower and knowledge are distributed (or concentrated) in the city. The profile varies across localities and is therefore quite unique.

Emissions and mass, meanwhile, have closer distributions across cities. It's likely that Transportation or Energy Systems will always top the charts for the Emissions, whilst Mass is usually topped by Built Environment.

The goal is not necessarily to reduce Mass (Material Consumption) to zero, as that would be infeasible, but rather to look at how to establish the best balance between mass requirements, emissions and employment to deliver city services.

Perhaps there are ways to deliver along each of the thematic areas whilst keeping emissions low and employment high?
