Solving complex knowledge challenges requires a new paradigm and approach to how we capture, share, and manage information. We require better knowledge mobilization - bridging the gaps between research / expertise and practice - to build common knowledge and skills within teams, organizations, industries, communities, and society. It requires a globally connected platform for up-to-date information exchange. In the first part of this document, we share how the Guides platform has been uniquely designed and developed to address these challenges and how it can scale globally.
The social impact of mass knowledge mobilization and building common knowledge in the face of society's greatest challenges cannot be overstated. Every individual and organization in the world can benefit from sharing and growing collective knowledge through a trust-based network. Guides can help bridge the knowledge gap between researchers, experts, and institutions and the practitioners and public that can put it into practice. Guides can help workers upgrade skills and help rural communities provide better services and become more resilient through shared best practices. And the Guides network can benefit society by improving how information flows during crises and emergencies. This is explored more fully in section two.
The price society is paying for today's "platform" companies (examples: Facebook, Uber, AirBnB, Google) is too high. Too often they exploit workers and compromise user data, engage in immoral business practices, subsidize costs to create monopolies, and create toxic cultures -- all driven by the insatiable need to grow. In part three we describe a different approach to operations, management, governance, and ownership that ensures we remain purpose-driven, share profit more equitably, and ensure alignment with all stakeholders.
While these three sections are presented separately, they represent a holistic approach to the complex problem of collective knowledge building and mobilization at scale.
