Mandate

The City of Hamilton implements nature-based solutions (NBS) for climate action, focusing on forestry, wetlands, green spaces, and green infrastructure. These NBS contribute to climate resilience and environmental protection. The NBS working group will help to inform, and provide support to the City of Hamilton to advance its NBS-related targets (i.e. 30% urban tree canopy coverage). This will include tracking certain municipal climate action targets and indicators, providing expertise and support for service mapping and assessments, and developing potential action plans and policy recommendations to ensure that the City of Hamilton is advancing its NBS programmes.

Objectives

• Advance existing NBS related workstreams alongisde City of Hamilton staff and community stakeholders (i.e not-for-profits).
• Effectively collaborate with other CCAC working groups to support NBS targets (i.e. community engagement).
• Act as a liaison between community stakeholders and the CCAC to ensure equitable consideration/participation to advance NBS outcomes.
