Manufacturing diamonds. The future of artificial vision

The Québec government awarded two grants totaling $438,400 to
iBIONICS
to help fund and carry out a project to create a
high-resolution bionic vision project worth an estimated $3,250,425.
MNA for Hull Maryse Gaudreault made the announcement August 2, 2018 on
behalf of the Minister of Justice and Minister responsible for the
Outaouais region Stéphanie Vallée, Deputy Premier, Minister of
Economy, Science, and Innovation and Minister responsible for the
Digital Strategy Dominique Anglade, and Minister for Small and Medium
Enterprises, Regulatory Streamlining and Regional Economic Development
Stéphane Billette.

iBIONICS uses a patented technology based on diamond electrodes, the
Diamond Eye™, a visual prosthesis that restores artificial vision to
individuals suffering from retinitis pigmentosa and age-related
macular degeneration. The funding granted will facilitate the
development of a retinal implant in a silicone support and an
attachment system to the retina, specialized glasses, a surgical
technique and adapted surgical tools.
