Material Properties of Copper:

RESOURCE: Copper Facts - Natural Resources Canada

  • Copper is a metallic ore, mined mainly in Chile, the United States and Indonesia.
  • Copper has a brownish red colouring.
  • When exposed to oxygen, copper will turn green. This 'oxidization' is not harmful to the metal and doesn't affect its useful life.
  • Copper is used in electrical wiring, building materials and decorative applications. Compounds of copper are also used in wood preservatives.
