Labelling Programs
High performance is measured for third-party certifications and building labels, whether in GigaJoules per year, kWh per m2 or by bike racks.
ULTIMATE GOAL: By the 2030's, ALL buildings in Canada are going to be carbon and energy NET ZERO. This means:
- Zero carbon emissions: from heating, cooling and energy generation
- Net zero energy: building produces as much energy as it needs = net zero. Solar, wind, geothermal, etc..
Labelling programs that provide a guided path:
- Net Zero Energy Housing - CHBA (approx. 80% better than Code w/ renewables)
- Passive House (approx. 75% better than Code)
- R2000 (approx. 50% better than Code)
- Energy Star (this is about the level of our current Building Code)
