Occupant Comfort is Job #1

Creating a comfortable indoor environment for building occupants, in the heating and cooling season is the primary goal for any high-performance construction.

What is comfort? A building should consistently provide:

  • 30 m3 per hour per person of fresh air (about 18 cfm)
  • A difference of no more than 4 degrees Celsius (7.2 degrees F) from head to ankle.
  • Indoor temperature of 21 degrees Celsius (70 degrees F)
  • Relative humidity of 50% (at 21 degrees)
  • Floor temperature between 19 and 29 degrees Celsius (68 - 84 degrees F)
  • Little difference in temperature from wall to floor, and in front of openings.
