[1] Commercial vehicles may be exempt from 7 day impoundment under HTA 55.2 if the driver's licence has been suspended for less than 100 days AND the vehicle's registered gross weight is more than 4500 kg.

[4] Commercial Driver must be driving commercial motor vehicle

  • always seize the drivers licence if the driver surrenders it
  • impounding in most cases is for the motor vehicle only, not it's cargo. Drivers and owners are responsible for the removal and transportation of any load, contents and trailers.
  • complete an RMS entry for all suspensions and impounds
  • police intitiated suspensions run concurrent with existing ones
  • always verify with MTO Suspension Control that existing suspensions are valid prior to taking action
