Most mature plants can stand up to high winds and heavy rains. If you hear a particularly nasty storm is coming, you may want to consider putting up some kind of basic shield or protection where possible. Tarps, cloths, and stakes (both as a tarp frame and as individual plant stabilizers) are all viable options for protecting your rooted beauties.
A good storm is also a great excuse to put up a DIY greenhouse or shed.
# If bulbs have put up shoots in late winter/early spring and a cold snap is threatening, put some sackcloth or covering over them to keep out Jack Frost.
