Proper font size is an important aspect of web accessibility. Using a baseline font size of at least 16 pixels is a safe bet, but also ensure that text used for, say, footnotes, is not too small as to be unreadable.

Your font treatment should also be readable and not hidden behind other types of content or in your page containers when users increase the text size in their browsers.
