Watch For Cues

Keep an eye on your child to determine when he/she needs to go so you can get them to the potty quickly and encourage them to use the potty instead of their diaper.

Common cues may be:

  • Going in a corner or under a table
  • Squatting
  • Red or scrunched up face
  • Grabbing diaper/touching bum
  • Grunting

Some children might openly tell you "poo" when they are having a bowel movement. When you notice any of these cues, ask your child if they need to use the potty or guide them to the nearest potty. Encourage them to tell you when they need to go.
