Make potty time a routine for your child. The goal is for your
child to eventually go potty by themselves without being
prompted.
How to create a schedule:
- Identify 2-3 times during the day when you will put your child
on the potty.
- Have your child sit for at least 5 minutes each time. Sit with
them and either sing songs or read books to encourage them to stay
seated. If they refuse to sit on the potty, don't force them or you
risk turning potty training into a negative experience for
them.
- Try to pick times when your child would usually wet or soil
their diaper. E.g.) First thing in the morning, after naps, before
bed, etc.
- Incorporate potty time into your child's bedtime routine. After
they brush their teeth, put them on the potty before getting into
bed.
