If they tell you when they need to go or sit on the potty for the allotted time, praise them for their efforts. Even if they don't have success on the potty right away, every step that they take towards potty training helps and should be encouraged.

When they are successful, reward them for their efforts and let them share the good news with grandparents or aunts and uncles who will provide further encouragement.
