Timing Is Everything

When to start potty training is not just based on their age and signs of readiness. It also depends on the circumstances.

When children are experiencing periods of change like a new home, new sibling, new daycare, it can be stressful for them. Potty training at this time will only add to their stress. In fact, some toilet trained children may regress when a new sibling is born and need to start potty training again.

You will also want to start potty training when you are able to dedicate a significant amount of time with your child at home. Regardless of the method you choose to follow, potty training is most effective when you spend time watching their cues, getting them to the potty and sitting with them while they are on the potty. Consistency is key.
