Blogging: Create A Dedicated Blog

If you don't have an established personal brand or corporate brand, you may want to consider creating a dedicated blog around the subject of your Guide.

You can either blog about things related to the subject of the Guide as a basis for testing the content and later integrating it into the Guide or just blog about the subject and provide a spot to sign-up for the Guide while it's in development (more on that soon).

The main idea is to begin cultivating a user base and readership to help spread your ideas.

It's easier than ever to get a blog up with platforms like:

Wordpress

Tumblr

Blogger

Posterous

There's no major advantage to one over the other, but Wordpress is one of the most established platform with an extensive third party plug-in network.

Post Consistently

Posting consistently is one of the most critical parts to attracting readers and building a community.

Write blog posts often and consistently (aiming for 2-3 times a week is great) and post them to your social channels at least once per day if possible or every two days at the latest. This shouldn't include replies and conversations with followers or engaging with influencers - do that as often as you can.

Also be sure to creating high quality content in different styles that has nothing (directly) to do with your Guide. Short and mid-length posts on your blog, quotes, funny/inspirational pictures and infographics on Facebook and Google+, and all of the above in addition to relevant news/great articles on Twitter.

Here are 7 types of posts that make writing a blog post a breeze:

  • Format #1: List Posts - "7 Popular Styles Of Blogging"
  • Format #2: Interview Post - This could be done with Skype, Google Hangout or any other type of video or audio solution. If you're going to have a written interview only, make sure it's really good.
  • Format #3: Review Post - give your thoughts on other, high profile industry posts, books, blogs, apps, training programs and so on.
  • Format #4: Links Round-up Post - Create a thematic grouping of the most valuable resources you've seen and list them all out for others to use.
  • Format #5: Response Post - Write a response post to something someone else has written and disagree with their point of view. You don't have to be mean or angry about it, just state the facts and your experience with your point of view.
  • Format #6: Mini process post - this just reinforces the need for a guide like the one you're creating. Process post detail step-by-step how a user would do something very specific - like applying a filter in photoshop or setting up a Facebook page. These posts are extremely popular online as people with often share them multiple times.
  • Format #7: Contest Post - Give something away! Write up about how awesome it the prizes are and what each item does. Have people execute simple actions as a way of entering and then pick winners and highlight them.

Attend Blogging Conferences And Build Friendships

Blogging conferences can be one of the best ways to meet "second tier" bloggers. Don't go after all the high profile ones like everyone else.

Develop key relationships that will grow over time with these bloggers (who are just starting to build their careers and still growing their influence).

One of the best ones attended by authors and entrepreneurs is NMX by BlogWorld.
