Creating An Engaging About Page

Fanchimp share the most important points of the About Page that all Etsy shop owners should pay special attention to.

On Etsy there are a lot of sellers and a lot of products. When a person is searching for something to buy, they will visit different shops until they find what impresses them for one reason or another. One of the things that may convince them, is the About page. For that reason it is important that you take care of this page, adding your story and point of view.

Follow these guidelines to create a great About page for your Etsy shop:

  • Be natural and don't talk like a reseller. Think like you are explaining to a new acquaintance what you are and what you do.
  • You can use both the 3rd person or talk directly. The most important thing is always the content.
  • Start to write 2 different versions on a piece of paper and show them to your husband, your family and friends and let them guide you to make the final draft.
  • You can just put 3 links in this page. Put something that can help the people stay in contact with you, for example: Facebook, Twitter, or something that continues to talk about you and your products such as your website or blog.
  • The first thing that a visitor will see is your photos. Remember that this isn't the place where you showcase your products, but your story. The suggestion from me and also from Etsy is to put photos of you working on making your products, your city, the tools that you use, etc. Be careful about the quality of your photos, the space is really big, the ideal image must be 760x507px or more.
  • Another opportunity you have here is to talk about your team members and explain the importance of them, don't waste the opportunity.
  • Have you been featured in some good blogs? Signal that and also put some quotes from your customers.
  • Be brief and concise. There are a lot of things to say but the majority of the people don't want to read too much.
  • Put some spaces to divide the paragraphs, this way it will be easier to read the page.
  • On the right side of the page appears a photo of you with a little bio. Choose a super cool photo of you and an original bio.
