Sealing Wires

  • Wires that penetrate through the polyethylene air barrier will need to be sealed with acoustical and/or approved tape
  • Wires should ideally always penetrate wood framing or backing to ensure better air sealing and durability
  • Wires that penetrate in wood wall studs, or top and bottom plates, need to be sealed using expanding foam or acoustical sealant supported by an approved tape
  • Using only acoustical sealant without tape is not permitted as it is required to be sandwiched between two materials
