Problem:

Homeowner Question: Why is there condensation on my windows after my insulation was upgraded?

Cause: Why is this happening?

Upgrading the insulation and re-installing, or fixing the air barrier, has caused the home to become more air-tight, which means more moisture stays within the home. This may cause increased condensation on windows.

Solution: Ventilation

  • If the home has an HRV it may need to be re-balanced or changed to a more appropriately sized unit
  • If the home owner does not have an HRV, they may now want to consider one (Technically they could open the windows, but this is inefficient, especially in the winter)
  • Consult a ventilation specialist to determine the best course of action
