Can YOU make it Air Tight?

Fridtjof Nansen - Norwegian scientist, explorer, diplomat and humanitarian.

This is Fridtjof Nansen.

In 1893, while exploring in the Arctic, he converted rooms on his ship - the Fram - to airtight, highly insulated and ventilated spaces.

He used tarred felt, linoleum, wood panels, thick felt and cork to a depth of about 15" (38 cm). He made a triple-paned skylight and used a sail to ventilate.

He wrote in his journal that he was completely comfortable and was thinking of getting rid of his wood stove, because burning an oil lamp was enough.

He made a boat into a fully functioning Passive House.

In 1893. In the Arctic.

The only thing stopping us from doing the same is the will NOT to do it.
