A legally binding international treaty on climate change called "The Paris Agreement" was signed by 196 countries in December 2015, from which Canada then created the Pan-Canadian Framework.
Buildings account for almost 18% of all emissions in Canada, mainly due to the energy required to keep our buildings warm in winter and, more now than ever, cool in the summer. This is why all new buildings will aim for Net Zero performance, while existing buildings will be treated with energy retrofits in the decades ahead.
