The purpose of making our buildings more airtight and better insulated is to conserve energy. If we get the building envelope details right, we can lower the amount of energy required for heating, cooling and general comfort.

Decreasing the demand for power from the grid opens up possibilities for high-efficiency appliances and renewable energy systems. Our future building codes will insist on building envelope improvements that will make it easier to integrate this type of equipment.
