Ventilation technology has provided great new inventions to modern construction - the HRV and ERV.
Both of these machines are coupled with an HVAC system to provide constant fresh air ventilation in a building.
An HRV exchanges cool, fresh air with warm exhaust air, transferring heat to the incoming air.
An ERV does the same thing as an HRV, with the added benefit of collecting moisture from the exhaust air.
Creating an airtight building MUST be combined with good ventilation - balanced HVAC and an HRV or ERV.
Do your homework on the HRV / ERV unit you recommend. Aim for good quality, preferably with sound dampening and ease of filter changes. Talk to your Energy Advisor to get their advice.
