Plumbing work is a regulated trade and should ONLY BE DONE by licensed plumbers. Maintaining airtightness can be planned ahead of time - involve your plumber in the planning process to make sure it's done properly.

Sealing around pipes that enter and exit the building envelope must be done with material that is resistant to moisture and flexible to move with the expansion and shrinkage of metal pipes.

Some considerations:

• Learn about what materials work best with plumbing - PEX, ABS, PVC and copper all have unique properties. Use the correct sealant!
• Plumbing is an airtight system on its own. Remember that your airtight building needs to be balanced with your HVAC or HRV / ERV.
