At every joint and overlap, there has to be a durable, flexible and air tight tape or gasket, to ensure that the air barrier stays continuous. Working your way around receptacles for plumbing and electrical requires that you use the appropriate methods and materials.
Important Considerations for Tapes & Gaskets:
Is the tape air tight? Will you be able to seal with the tape? Is it flexible and durable enough to last the life of the building?
Know what the tape is made for. Interior or exterior application? Specific companion for materials? Read the packaging or look up the specs.
Plan your joints and estimate linear footage - find out how long a roll of tape will go and order boxes, not individual rolls.
GASKETS:
Is the gasket air tight? Look for products rated for air tightness.
Will the adhesive stick and stay stuck...forever? Look for the most durable and most adhesive product you can afford.
Where and what is it meant for? Interior or exterior? Is it okay around electrical or plumbing? And does it combine well with other materials?
