Introduction

So, you're ready for the rite-of-passage -- backpacking around Europe. Congratulations! You are going to make memories that will last a lifetime.

Of course, it's preferable if the majority of those memories are positive ones. With a little planning ahead, though, they should be.

How long you need to save up for your trip depends on you. As far as planning your trip, start at least two months out, especially if you're traveling during peak season.

Concerning the length of your trip, again that depends on your budget and lifestyle. Probably anything less than two weeks is not worth the cost of the flight. It will also take you approximately 48 to 72 hours to get over the jet lag one way. If you're traveling two months or longer, plan to settle here and there to avoid feeling like a nomad -- it's not as romantic as it sounds.
