What Are You Building?

Stone by stone. Stick by stick. Brick by brick.

We are building.

Each and every day we get up, begin again, and whether we realize it or not, we are building…constantly building.

Last week, I watched my five year old, Eli, take up the challenge of building a stick fort. His vision so grand as he set out to begin his master plan. I watched as he labored over his project and how after just a little bit of time he began to show wounds from his work.

As he created, he became scratched and bruised. At times, a few of his scrapes even drew blood. I watched as he became tired and even a little discouraged when he realized his reality was falling short of his dream. But he kept building.

Stick by stick. Branch by branch. He kept building. It wasn't an easy task. In fact, it took a lot of work. More work than he anticipated, more time than he wished to give, and today his project is still not done.

However, even though his project is incomplete, it is not a failure. It is simply a foundation for more work to come and for future success to be built upon.

So, what are you building?

Today are you building something of lasting value or are you building something that will only fade away and leave you feeling empty again?

Are you setting the foundation for a new chapter of your life and creating blueprints for where you are heading next?

Or is today a demolition day? A day where you are getting your hands dirty as you tackle the hard work of starting over in order for you to build again.

Today are you building the type of foundation required for your dreams to be built upon or is it going to take a little bit more work, a little bit more time, a few more sticks and a couple more bricks?
