Know And Understand What Your App Will Do

With an estimated 800,000 apps in the Apple App Store (200,000 being iPad alone) in Oct 2012, it's imperative to ensure your App is clearly thought out to wow your potential users.

Start by asking yourself some basic questions and write down the answers:

  • What will your app do?
  • How will it benefit your audience?
  • How will your app stand out?
  • Why would users engage with or buy your app?

There are many types of apps out there that have different functions and uses, here are a few examples:

  • Utilities Apps - These are useful apps that will help you calculate things or help solve problems. e.g. Unit / Currency Converters. These are aimed at making life easier for users.
  • Social Apps - A good example besides the obvious Facebook and Twitter are Apps such as WhatsApp where you can send messages, photos and video over the network for free.
  • Games - Are an extremely popular type of app that will require a stronger focus on graphics.
  • Entertainment - These are the types of apps that would include celebrity news, apps that make funny noises etc
  • Travel Apps - Finding location based information such as tour guides / restaurants etc
