9.25.3 Air Barrier Systems


This photo shows a properly sealed attic hatch The photo shows a chimney sealed with accoustical sealant covered by red sheathing tape (to make it a little less messy) and high heat silicone sealant against the pipe.
  • Where access hatches are installed in an assembly with an air barrier system they must be weatherstripped to minimize air leakage
  • Clearance at chimneys and gas vents must be sealed using noncombustible materials to prevent air leakage
    • With tape or compatible material to the air barrier
    • With high temperature caulking to the vent
