Below Grade Dampproofing

"Dampproofing: The process of coating the exterior of a foundation wall with bituminous emulsions, plastic cements. The purpose of dampproofing is to restrict the movement of soil vapour through basement walls and floor slabs to the interior of the basement. "
(Definition reference: CHBA Manual, Appendix 5, pg. 390)

Note: The NBC lists dampproofing and waterproofing for below grade as having separate requirements. Waterproofing is used where hydrostatic pressure occurs.
