When starting a job at a new site (existing home or new home) perform a visual inspection of the entire building. If something is identified during the inspection that is incorrect or indicates a problem, it needs to be fixed prior to insulating, if it will have an affect on the job. An example of this is mold or water damage. Issues such as this can cause damage to the studs and other materials in the home, which need to be repaired before insulation can be installed. Other issues such as piping being placed in larger holes than necessary, will need to be sealed properly on the exterior and the interior of the home.

When performing a visual inspection, make sure that the appropriate personal protective equipment is worn. (PPE will be discussed later in this module).
